Hilla lived many years as a widow in Siegen where she had a shop and a shop window on a prominent corner (Ort). She was, therefore, known not only as "Hilla die Gartze" (Gartz's or Gernard's wife), but also as "Hilla uff dem Ort" (Hilla on the corner).
She inherited her Guild memberships from her husband. She made genrous gifts in 1514 and 1516 to repair St. Martin's church.
