Was born May 27, 1931, in South Myrtle on the outskirts of Myrtle Creek, Oregon, at his family homestead to a sixth generation Oregon family. Archie lived in Oregon most of his entire life, with a few brief adventures to Alaska, California, Nevada and Washington. As a young man, he drove lumber, logging and freight trucks. He became a heavy equipment operator (cat, shovel, yarder and skidder) for numerous logging companies in Oregon. He always loved working out in the woods. This past summer he made many new friends selling Mr. B’s Hot Dogs. His hobbies included wood working, gardening, cooking, meeting his buddies for early morning coffee and playing pool. He passed peacefully at home with his family on September 15, 2007. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Shirley (Turner); four sons and one daughter, Terry of Kennewick, Washington; David of Vancouver, Washington; Randy and wife, Renee of Roseburg; Mike and wife, Crystal of Vancouver; and Cindy Kirk and husband, Tom of Portland, Oregon; along with nine grandchildren, six great-grandchildren; sister and brother-in-law, Betty and Leroy Hanna and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Louise Winebarger and granddaughter, Bobbie Jo Briggs. A family viewing will be held Friday, September 21, 2007, from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m. at Chapel of the Roses. A celebration of life memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, September 22, 2007, at First United Methodist Church in Roseburg with a reception following. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Community Cancer Center or Mercy Hospice Care.
