Rhoda Morris' gpa Benjamin Blackburn

Benjamin was a clergyman, and he came to this country in 1774 from Scotlan d. He settled in the Halifax district of NC, then he moved on to the De ep Gap area of Ashe County. Many of the descendants of Benjamin and Eliza beth Atkinson Blackburn were instrumental in establishing the Methodist Ch urch in the Blue Ridge Mountain area of NC. Benjamin died between 1800 a nd 1804. Elizabeth's will can be found at the Ashe County, North Caroli na Courthouse in Jefferson, North Carolina (Book A, Page 39, dated Septemb er 27, 1814).

The Blackburn name is thought to have originated in England, and speculat ion is that they went to Scotland for religious reasons.

Benjamin is found on the 1790 census in Halifax, and in 1800 he is in Ashe .
